LI-6800 portable photosynthesis system

Description

The LI-6800 portable photosynthesis system allows for the simultaneous measurement of gas exchange of CO2 and H2O, and pulse-amplitude modulated (PAM) chlorophyll a fluorescence. The measurements are taken online with a cuvette for a leaf, where the environment (light, temperature, humidity and CO2) surrounding the leaf can be controlled. This system allows for the measurement of photosynthetic aspects, such as CO2 assimilation rate (A), stomatal conductance (gs), operating efficiency of photosystem II (ΦPSII). The environmental control allows for either mimicking (or tracking) of the outside environment, or the control of variables such as CO2 and light, in order to conduct photosynthetic response curves (e.g. so-called A-Ci and A-I curves). The latter allow for determination of a large range of photosynthetic parameters (e.g. using the Farquhar-von Caemmerer & Berry model).

Advantages

  • Portable, integrated system for fast measurements with high precision (0.1 μmol mol-1 for CO2 and 0.01 mmol mol-1 for H2O (4 sec averaging time))
  • A split flow design, allows for option to directly exhaust sample and reference air flows at the head, for near-real time and simultaneous sampling and analysis with external analysers.
  • Suitable for lab, greenhouse and field conditions
  • Environmental control, allowing for response curves
  • Programmable, option for auto-programs and automation (advanced use)

Technical Details

  • Infra-red gas analyser (IRGA) for CO2 and H2O
  • Leaf chamber with integrated multi-phase flash fluorometer, for 2 or 6 cm2 leaf area (round aperture), flow rate of 0-1400 µmol s-1
  • Leaf temperature control within ± 10°C of ambient temperature
  • CO2 control: range of 0 – 2000 µmol mol-1
  • H2O control: 0 – 90% relative humidity
  • Actinic light intensity control: red-blue LED (peak wavelengths 625 and 475 nm, respectively), total output range of 0 – 3000 µmol m-2 s-1. Far-red LED (735 nm),  output range 0-20 µmol m-2 s-1
  • Internal and external PAR sensor
  • Mains power (lab, greenhouse) or battery operated (field)
